LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
Support for the Hunter's veteran community
The Hunter is one of the most significant defence regions in the country. RAAF Base Williamtown, just north of Newcastle, is home to Australia's air combat capability, including the F-35A fleet, Air Combat Group and the surveillance and response mission. The Army's School of Infantry at Lone Pine Barracks in Singleton trains soldiers from across the country. Together they anchor a large serving and ex-serving population spread through Newcastle, the Lower Hunter and the Upper Hunter. Many members settle in the region after service, and a large share carry service-related conditions that are never claimed, or are lodged and rejected on evidence that was never properly built.
Across the Hunter, handled online. DVA and the superannuation funds process almost everything by phone and online, so you do not need to travel to work with us. We act for veterans from Newcastle and Lake Macquarie to Maitland, Cessnock, Port Stephens and the Upper Hunter, with the same expert team the whole way through.
HOW WE HELP
How KSC Law helps Hunter veterans
VETERANS & DEFENCE
DVA compensation claims
Initial liability, permanent impairment, incapacity payments, the Special Rate of Disability Pension, and appeals to the Veterans' Review Board. Since 1 July 2026, new claims are decided under a single improved MRCA.
MILITARY SUPERANNUATION
Commonwealth super invalidity
If you were medically discharged, your DFRDB, MSBS or ADF Cover benefit is assessed by invalidity classification. Getting the right classification, and challenging one that is too low, makes a lasting difference.
SUPER & INSURANCE
Total and permanent disability
Many veterans also hold TPD cover inside a civilian or industry super fund from later employment. A TPD claim is separate from DVA and from your military super, and it can often be pursued at the same time.
AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE
Abuse during service
Claims for abuse or serious mistreatment during service are civil claims under state law. New South Wales has removed the time limits that once blocked historical child abuse claims, so matters going back many years can now be pursued. We act confidentially.
A LAW FIRM, NOT A FREE ADVOCACY SERVICE
Do you need a Newcastle DVA lawyer, or an advocate?
Many Hunter veterans start by searching for a dva advocate. Ex-service advocates do valuable work, and for some claims they are the right first step. Where a claim is complex, high-value, or has already been rejected, having a law firm behind it changes what is possible. We can take a matter through the full appeal pathway, brief evidence to the standard a tribunal expects, and act for you when the other side has lawyers of their own. Our expert team will tell you honestly which path suits your situation.
GOT QUESTIONS? GOOD.
Newcastle DVA claims: common questions
Is there a DVA office in Newcastle?
DVA no longer runs walk-in shopfronts the way it once did. Most contact is by phone or through MyService online. That is one reason a claim can stall without the right support behind it, and it is where we step in.
Do I need a Newcastle DVA lawyer specifically?
You need the right expertise, not a particular postcode. Our team acts for Hunter veterans, including the Williamtown and Singleton communities, and knows how DVA and the Veterans' Review Board handle New South Wales claims. Because claims run online and by phone, your location does not limit the outcome.
What does it cost to talk to KSC Law?
The first conversation is free and there is no obligation. It is a chance for us to understand your service and your conditions, and to explain your options clearly. For DVA compensation we guarantee you keep at least 91% of your payment.
