What is a DVA card number?
The DVA number is a unique identifier assigned to each cardholder. It ensures veterans and their family members receive the right benefits and services, and it is used to access healthcare, prescriptions and other veteran-related entitlements. The DVA file number is the same identifier, used to track all interactions associated with your benefits so the process stays organised.
The three types of DVA card
Gold Card
The DVA Gold Card provides the most comprehensive cover, including medical treatment, pharmaceuticals and allied health services for all conditions.
White Card
The DVA White Card covers treatment for specific accepted conditions at no cost, plus mental health care under the relevant non-liability provisions.
Orange Card
The DVA Orange Card is primarily for pharmaceutical benefits, available to eligible Commonwealth and allied veterans, providing access to medicines under the Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
How to find your DVA card number
Your DVA card number is printed on the front of the card itself, so keep it handy for appointments and any contact with DVA. If you cannot find your card or need help, contact DVA, who can retrieve your number and issue a replacement if needed. If your card is lost, contact DVA promptly to maintain access to your benefits.
Keeping your DVA information updated
Keeping your details current ensures uninterrupted access to your benefits. If your address or contact details change, notify DVA promptly through MyService. Outdated information can lead to delays in services, missed appointments or issues accessing benefits, so a regular check helps keep things running smoothly.
Using your DVA card
Present your card when visiting healthcare providers to receive covered treatment, including doctor visits, hospital treatment and allied health services. At pharmacies, present it to access medicines under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. Depending on your card type, you may also be eligible for further services such as mental health support and rehabilitation.
